LA CROSSE - Joan Marie (Pretasky) Bendickson, 63 of La Crosse, Wisconsin passed away unexpectedly February 21, 2024. Joan Graduated from Central High school in 1979. She then went on to earn her RN degree.

Joan's nursing career stretched more than 30 years. Much of her work was in La Crosse. Over the last 10 yrs, her spirit carried her to explore nursing in many parts of the country from Maine to Washington State and many cities in between as a Travel RN.

Joan's passions in life were 1st and foremost, time with her children. She also loved spending time with her nieces and nephews who remember well playing, "Joan's version" of Old Maid. A ton of laughter with a hint of cheating, was always involved. Joan loved painting with acrylics of which she showed her natural artistry. She also loved gardening and hiking. Her adventurous spirit lead her to climb to the top of Pikes Peak and Mount Fuji. Her next wish was to climb Mt Rainier while living in Washington.

Joan was preceded in death by her Mom and Dad: Edward and Zita Pretasky.

She is survived by her beautiful children: Jennifer (Paul) Vaughan with Nolan and Carter her amazing grandsons; her son, Evan Bendickson and daughter, Megan (Josh) Russ. Joan is also survived by her sisters and brothers: Linda Hammes, Mary (Brad) Burke, Bonnie Sedlacek, Jenny (Mike) Quinn, Carol (Jim) Wilson, Edward (Karen) Pretasky and Michael (Sonja) Pretasky. Joan also has 21 nieces and nephews who love "Aunt Joan" deeply. Joan's smile, humor and big heart will forever be a beautiful memory we all will hold close.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with family.
