ESCANABA, Mich./LA CROSSE — Edward J. Colbert, 46, of Escanaba and formerly of La Crosse died on Monday, April 14, 2008, in Escanaba.

Ed was born in Beaver Dam, Wis., on Sept. 27, 1961, to Julian and Lois (Graf) Colbert and was a 1979 graduate of Central High School. He worked for many years roofing and siding homes in the La Crosse area and also in Escanaba, where he had lived for the past 10 years. When was younger, Ed loved playing slow-pitch softball and also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his father, Julian Colbert, of Holmen, Wis.; two sisters, Julie (Steve) Churchill of Onalaska, Wis., and Carrie Colbert of St. Paul; two brothers, Ray (Sue) Colbert of Onalaska and Mike (Colleen) Colbert of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; nieces and nephews, Nicholas and Delaney Colbert, Stephanie, Nathan, and Jordan Churchill, Shayna Colbert, and Aubrey and Cal Colbert; many aunts, uncles and cousins; his fianceé, Linda Bougie, of Escanaba; and Linda’s mother, Aggie Bougie, also of Escanaba.

Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Lois; maternal grandparents, Ray and Beatrice Graf; paternal grandparents, Richard Colbert and Pauline Sutton; an infant brother, Patrick; and a nephew, Nicholaus Colbert.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. The Rev. Lawrence B. Berger will officiate. Burial will take place in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Hokah, Minn. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
